JV1 & JV2 Supercup Weekend Results

The JV1 Tigers won the 2021 Huntsville JV Super Cup this past weekend at Merrimack Turf fields. The Tigers began their quest on Thursday against Bob Jones Mahrk Royar's header 5 minutes after kickoff ended up being the game winner, but a late goal from Noah Amesbury secured the first win for the Tigers 2 - 0.

On Friday night the rain continued to poor down on and off during the course of the 2nd match against Sparkman. The weather and Sparkman seemed to be too much as the boys went into halftime down 0-1, but the boys didn't waste much time turning this around in the 2nd half with back to back goals to take the lead and the win. The first, a confident strike from Mahrk who was 35 yards out on the left flank. His shot deflected off of a Sparkman defender and after touching a rain cloud it dropped into the back of the net like out of the reach of the stretched out keeper. Brody Mitchell scored the game winner with a confident header into the back of the next from a well played corner.

With everything to play for on Saturday the first of two games was a battle between James Clemens. The game was back and forth but the sole goal of them game didn't come until deep into the 2nd half from a penalty scored by Maddox Quigley. His goal and some impressive defending from the group help the Tigers get the win.

At this point the tournament was on a 10 point systems. Grissom had 25 points from their 3 games and Huntsville was 2nd in the group with 18 from their 3 games. The game was back and forth both team had chances to break the tied. A few late chances and some quality defending and saves from underclassmen, Lake Treen, Gonzalo Dominguez, and keeper Sage Smith help the Tigers keep the clean sheet which also secured 1st place for the Tigers despite the 0-0 draw. 

The Tigers have won the Super Cup tournament two years in a Row.

JV2 Weekend Recap

The JV2 boys began their tournament on Thursday against Hazel Green. The boys fought hard but couldn't equalized an early goal allowed after some speedy play from Hazel Green. The game ended 0 - 1 in favor of the Trojans.

The boys looked to try again on Friday in a wet game against James Clemens. Similar to Thursday night, the Tigers gave up an early goal against to a speed striker and went down 0 - 1. They didn't give up though, and their hard work paid with a beautiful 2nd equalizer from Hayes Burger. The volley from just inside the top of the box came after Ryan Gierloff's cross was clear to Hayes who was ready to put it away. The game ended 1-1.

In the Saturday morning game Grissom played Huntsville. The Tigers struggled to capitalize off of the few chances they created and came up short in the 1-0 loss which put the boys in the 3rd place game for their final match of the tournament. This would be a rematch of the first game against Hazel Green. Unlike the previous matches, the Tigers jump out to a 1 - 0 lead with an arching goal that went past the keeper from Gavin Greaves. The one goal wasn't enough though as the Trojans responded with some clever play leading to their sole goal of the game right before the half. With no goals from either team in the second half the game went straight to penalties. The Tigers failed to capitalize off of their first 3 kicks and ended coming up short 0-3 in the shootout. Although the weekend may not have gone as the boys hope their were promising moments and lot of learning experiences to be had from the young Tigers.
