Varsity and JV Win Big @ Buckhorn

Varsity Tigers vs Buckhorn

The Varsity Tigers go across town to play once area competitors Buckhorn. The Tigers start they game fast and look to pick up where they left off after last nights 5-2 win over James Clemens. The Bucks look very organized from the back as they apply a low pressure midfield press making it difficult for the Tiger to play through their defensive. This force the Tiger to go over and in behind. After a well timed offsides trap that catches Grissom offsides the Tigers break through on their next attempt after Austin Rooker find Kevin Dong on a well time run in behind the Bucks defense. With just the keeper to beat Kevin slot it into the corner to put the Tigers up 1 - 0 after just 2 minutes of play. Shortly after Alexei Royar players arcing cross from the left side towards the back post to Dong who head home is 2nd of the night.

The Tigers continue to attack like a hungry pride in the safari without success until finally Logan Gaddis scores a laser, like a cannon ball , from 35 yards out to bring the score to 3-0. The Tiger make a few more changes that the Grissom field is filled with underclassmen. Josh Christie look to open his goal account to a strike comparable to Logan's from 40 yards out but it hits the right post, Sophmore Marhk Royar is first on the seen a smoothly tucks away the rebound for his first goal as a varsity player. A few minutes later Marhk find himself behind the Bucks defensive line with just the keeper to beat after a well weighted long ball from Josh Lowe. The keeper contemplates coming out but before he has time to finish his thought Royar places to his left and find the back of the net for his 2nd in a few minutes; the Tigers 5 of the night. Although the first half was coming to an end the Tigers weren't done yet. Marhk finds himself in behind the Bucks left side, but this time Mahrk cross to Junior Daniel Christie whose pushed up from left back into the penalty area. Daniel only needs one touch to confidently score his first of the season and the Tigers 6 of the night. The first half ends 6 - 0 in the Tigers favor.

The Tigers start the 2nd half with several young faces. The boys still look confident though and move the ball well from one side of the field to the other before a few unsuccessfully attempts to break the Bucks defensive line. As the 2nd half winds down senior Jacob Umbarger who intercepts a pass inside the attacking half strikers a ball them seemed to hang in the air for several minutes. The ball eventually come back towards earth and falls in the back of the next to Jacob's surprise to give the Tigers their 7th and final goal of the night. Senior defender Josh Lowe finds himself in goal and concedes a goal to the Bucks after the Tigers poorly give away possession in the defensive third to bring the score to 7 -1 which is how the game finishes at the final whistle. 

The Varsity Tigers win their 3rd in a row to bring their seasonal record to 3 - 1 - 2. The Tigers next outing will be the first area game of the season on this Monday at Albertville. This will be Albertville's first year in Area 7 and should be a great game.

JV 1 Tigers vs Buckhorn

The JV boys started the game strong with numerous shots that weren't too concerning for the Bucks' keeper until the Matt Ortakales finally found the back of the net for the Tigers with 17 minutes left in the first half. The didn't waste much time scoring again with the second goal from the JV boys scored from 35 yards out from Jonah Reeks would shot went just shy of the crossbar out of the keepers outstretched arms. The boy went into the have with a 2 - 0 lead. 

The boys come out of the half picking right up where left off. After some smooth combination play through the right side of the Buck defensive line Gonzalo Dominguez he plays a low cross through the keepers leg for Wesley Heigl to tap it and make it 3 - 0 for the Tigers. Shortly after the Obed Matias break through on the left side into the penalty area. With just the keeper to beat to smashes the ball into the opposite side of the net to give the Tigers their 4 goal of the night. The Tigers were in cruse control from here. Brody Mitchell & Ian Navarrete each score before the final whistle blows to bring the final score: Tiger 6 - Bucks 0.

The JV1 boys will be back in action on Thursday as they begin their quest to defend the JV SuperCup at Merrimack.
